| For budgies and other bird species, boiled rice is a tasteful and easy to digest source of protein. It should never be salted, because salt could cause serious damage to a bird's organism! The next time boil rice, leave out the salt, you can salt your helping when it's on your plate. Boiled without salt, you can give small quantities of rice to your pet birds. It is important to wash to rice before serving so that the grains do not stick together too strongly. Budgies usually don't like sticky food, but once they are used to boiled rice, they will love it. Rice should always be fed as an additional food. Never give boiled rice to breeding budgies. Otherwise the parents will gorge their chicks on the big rice grains that have only little nutritional value. Consequently, the chicks will starve or suffer from a lack of minerals and vitamins. You should never risk that!
